Images of the Prophet Muhammad were published in 2005 but they didn't seem to cause much ruches until they were published again in 2006. They were published in a Danish newspaper. These cartoons sparked riots in the Islamic world. Many people were killed and buildings were burned because of the offensive images.
I don't think that the cartoons should have been published. If there was already tension between the danish and islamic cultures than why cause more? They shouldn't have been published because it's not right to purposely cause harm to someone. One of the key ethics points is to minimize harm, which was obviously not done in this case. The journalist could have only described the pictures, not post all of them.
